Sylissa asks Ben Cypress Joy

Will humans become as adept at the arts of genetic design as my people, the Phlexx? Will they create pleasure pets, and redesign themselves, as we have done?

Ben Cypress Joy says

Oh yes. Humans will engineer themselves and other creatures for maximum pleasure, strength, and intelligence. They will explode into the galaxy, bursting with diversity and adaptability. Centuries from now, there will be thousands of distinct species of humans, adapted to vastly different environments, from deep space to the pressurized, swirling hot depths of Sylissa's home world.

The process has already begun, with tests to detect genetic diseases in embryos so that the defective ones can be aborted early. Eventually, it will be possible to fully pre-specify the entire genome of every child. Imagine the great debates that will come!

In the end, it will be seen that such work is not only valuable, but absolutely essential if the race is to prosper. We must take on the responsibility of directing our own evolution or we will perish, just as 99% of all species have done on planets throughout the galaxy.

Such power we will have. To avoid disaster, there must be a deep change in the cultural beliefs of the race, and a genuine transformation of global proportions. The task is mighty.

Are we ready?
